Coopers Real Ale penhey May 30th 2011

Cooper Real

Our first Home brew made with Coopers Original Real Ale and Brew Enhancer 2. Fermented at 19 to 20 with kit yeast. At day 10 we put it in the fridge with gelatin then chilled it down to close to zero for 4 days. We then kegged and sampled. Surprisingly good considering how little conditioning was done. Pretty clear. Tastes a bit too bitter and a little thin on the mouth but is quite drinkable. We probably "over-carbonated" so we are getting a lot of head

Highlands Heavy Ale

This was easy to brew. Og of 65 ending gravity of 22. I brewed using 4 US gallons, and really enjoy the rich malt and bitter hop flavor. Probably too bitter for most, but if you enjoy a bitter ale you will love this.

Pretty pleased with this

Made with Brew Enhancer number #2 and added boiled up 100g Southern Cross hop pellets and sieved into the fermenter. 2 weeks at approx 22 degrees then 2 weeks in the bottle and this is very very nice-was worried it was gonna be overkill with the hops but no at all. Shame its nearly all gone. Will give this 5/5

Coopers Pale

Made with Brew Enhancer 2 and the yeast supplied with the kit. Fermented at around 26 Degrees Centigrade for 7 days then racked to another fermenter for 4 days before kegging. My first ever kegged beer. I also bottled 4 longnecks (about 22 litres in total). A nice m alty brew with good head retention and foam sticks to the side of the glass. Must have been good because it was all gone within a few weeks with some help from my mates. Would be happy to make it again, but I am off to try others

Good for kit beer

I did this kit beer to keep my Aussie Megaswill drinking buddies happy. Not to far off the major brand names in terms of profile, but with much more flavour ( good for craft beer appreciation - a bit scary for megaswill drinkers !!) Made with Ultrabrew no. 1 which has Malt, Dextrose and Malto-Dextrose - yeast was safale US05 for clean flavour. Hops in can was a bonus! Easy to make, good megaswill replacement - quite sweet

Coopers Dark Ale

Its been about 4 years since I last did this brew because I didn't think it tasted like a good Aussie Old. I then read a recipie for an 80' Ale using dark brown sugar. I used 400gms of dbs, 500gms of ldm and half a box of coopers be2. I also steeped 20gms of centenial hops with the ldm for 10 mins. The sugar in this brew gives it an almost port like flavour which is very enjoyable. Its the first time Ive brewed this beer and realy liked it.

Very bitter

Made 40 pints of wherry exactly as per instructions and after 9 weeks in a barrel, put the co2 on and left to carbonate for further 4 days. Brew came out very clear with good head that stays to the bottom but to me tastes exceptionally bitter in aftertaste, so much so that it detracts from the brew, is this a common problem? Is there something I may have done wrong? Followed to the letter, added nothing extra, did not try any experimenting. Shame as it was almost great but is so very very bitter???

Real Malty

I brewed mine according to the Real Malty Ale recipe on the Coopers Brew Sugar box. 1x Real Ale kit 1kg Coopers Brewing Sugar 500g Coopers Light Dry Malt The name says it all REAL Malty, very good brew for my second attempt. Since this I have tried a 60 minute boil kit, considering the amount of time these Coopers kits take, they are all 4 out of 5 stars!

BR WW Hoegarden replica

Used SafWheat yeast, 1kg Wheat Dried Spray Malt, 15gms corriander crushed, 2Tblspns orange peel zest, brewed at 18degC, bottled with drops. Tasted very yeasty for the first 2 months and is very fizzy. After 4 months in the bottle it is exceptional, not really a Hoegarden though, a good Bavarian Wheat beer though. Needs more corriander and oragnge peel too.

yum yum

I brewed this according to the standard kit instructions and served from a keg. Absolutely beautiful - no homebrew 'twang' whatsoever. Fruity hop balanced by malt, great session beer. You won't be disappointed by this. Best brew I've done to date.

APA

Coopers APA kit with 500gr of sugar. Bioled the sugar and the left over bits on the inside of can for 15 mins, during which time I added 2 1/2 oz of Amarillo whole hops. Fermented primary only for 10 days. I drank my first bottle after only 4 days and it was like heaven! Would recommend it to anyone!

Trans Atlantic Ale

This is a new review of the Cooper English Bitter. I thought I should do this with an American twist with 25gms of cascade hops in a 30min boil with 500gms of LDM, plus half a bag of BE2 and 3packs of Coopers yeast. This is a big improvment on the kit and has real potential for an ever better brew with a good dose of dry hopping with either cascade or galaxy hops and a US05 yeast. The skys the limits wiht this kit even if Coopers did'nt intend it to be.

I don'nt know why Coopers has to charge us so much to follow the instructions as recomended then give us not enough yeast to ferment at a lager temps. This brew just did'nt come out that well after 2weeks @15c and 3weeks lagering in kegs. It just tasted thick and unfermented even with a FG1006. For the price a 15gm pack of yeast would of made a better beer.

Nice first brew

Brewed with BE1 @ 26c. When I bottled it I thought it was a disaster, it smelled odd. It was my first ever. After 2 weeks in the bottle, I am very pleased , mostly that you can brew it for about $27.50 for 2.5 cases worth. Light drinking with plenty of taste and body!

awesome kit

this was my first kit i tried because of its simplicity, like the other brewhouse kits its nearly impossible to mess up. 3 weeks in primary and it was ready to go, super clear and it tasted great! ended up being higher alc% than its supposed to be because i added a few litres less water than the intructions say, but im happy with the taste. The best part was it was ready to drink and carbonated a week after bottling! Awesome beer, especially for starters.

Coopers Bitter Groovy G April 17th 2011

but.....I added extra and now WOW! It was GREAT

Second post for the English Bitter kit. Brewed with kit yeast, 500g of Coopers light dry malt plus 500g of dextrose and this time added 12 grams of Morgans Fuggles finishing Hops (the tea bag) steeped for 30 min's then added to wort, bag and all. Brewed for 2 weeks between 21 and 24 degrees celcius, then bottled. Still quite hoppie at 3 weeks but the fuggles make a heap of difference! This kit is almost perfect! Would LOVE to try the Coopers Extra Smooth Bitter recipe from their website or with crystal malt. If you have please let us know.

Better than Coopers Canadian Blonde but watery!

Brewed with kit yeast and Coopers brew enhancer 2 at 22 to 24 degrees Celsius for 2 weeks then bottled. Left for 4 months. Beer was exactly the same colour as a Corona! Brew carbonated very well but had a really, really watery mouth feel! Had a strange aroma, not unlike Coopers Canadian Blonde and its taste did not improve at all over time. Tasted not unlike a Coopers Canadian Blonde but it had HEAPS more guts (more of a beer flavour) but surprisingly less mouth feel. I suspect this was from the Coopers brew enhancer 2 and would be keen to know if anyone else has had success with any other additives. I think with some tweaking this could be the best lager kit on the market! Proper larger yeast maybe? Something to thicken the mouth feel? Please experiment and post a review.

I did this brew about 2 years ago when I was looking to do a pale US style ale. From my records I did this with 1kg of LDM and for the first time 'AMORILLO' hops, about 20gms for 15mins & 10gms @ flame out with 300gms of the LDM. It came out quite full flavored when it was fresh from the keg. I used a US05 yeast. I dont know why you would want to brew a Corona style beer? But if your looking for more body and mouthfeel mabey try those viagra wankers! No offence GroovyG but they PISS ME OFF.
