Awesome kit!

My third homebrew. Brewed with 500g LDME and 300g dex, pitched with kit yeast, made to 22 litres. After 2 months in the bottle it is amazing. The head retention is good, mouthfeel great and the taste is crazy cool. People who tasted it couldn't believe it was homebrew. Will probably add some roasted barley and crystal malt next time. Might also use it as a base for double chocolate stout. Try this kit!

Expensive and Not that Great

This kit was relatively expensive ant not very good at all. I finally got round to brewing it 2 months ago and not very happy. Gave quite a lot of the brewcraft kits a go not and find them mostly overpriced and not very good. I did get a much better chocolate recipe when i used a coopers can then added 500grams of chocolate malt and steeped in a BIAB bag.

Pretty good Pale Ale

Brewed with 1.5kg coopers liquid light malt extract, 2nd gen coopers kit yeast and SA05, < 20deg or so 2 weeks ferment, finished with 120g home grown cascade 90deg steeped 1hr. Kegged, very good looking golden ale. Very Fat Yak like palate, fermented pretty dry but a little sweet malt and great hop palette and aroma. V good Pale Ale, what does trad draught really mean anyway, draught is how you serve it isn't it?

Iron mic. punch cider

made this a few times the recommened way, using apple & pear juice, etc. Ther'e all good but I like to use two kits + 1kg dextose & make upto 30 Litres. Will take 3 - 4 months before you can drink but it's worth the wait!

Irish Ale recipe

Made this Irish Ale recipe from the Coopers website.1 can Coopers Draught, Coopers Brew Enhancer 1, 300 grams Golden Syrup up to 21 Litres, but I also added one 12g tea bag of Fuggles. In hindsight, the Fuggles were a huge mistake as they added extra bitterness that the Golden Syrup is trying to round off. Still a good drop though but it took at least 6 or more months for the hops to mellow out. The Golden Syrup really adds a smooth texture off the pallet.

Best beer ever!

Third post for the English Bitter kit. Brewed two batches both with White Labs WLP005 British Ale Yeast, 250g of crystal malt, 30 grams of Fuggles and E K Golding hops all steeped for 30 minutes. Added 1kg of un-hopped Lager malt to one batch and 1kg of un-hopped Amber malt to the other. Brewed for 2 weeks at 21 degrees celcius, then bottled. This is without doubt the best beer I have ever made, on par with the fresh wort stuff if not better. I preferred the one made with Amber malt myself, but both were superior beers. Be careful to add only half the normal amount of dextrose when bottling as the extra grain really aids the head retention and if this beer is too carbonated, they are next to impossible to poor without getting heaps of head and froth.

Extra Smooth Recipe

Tried the Extra Smooth Bitter recipe from the Coopers website. Brewed two batches both following my recipe below but this time I also added 200 grams of molasses. The extra molasses did smooth some of the bitterness and certainly made the beer much smoother and creamier on the pallet. However the molasses was quite overpowering in aroma, cancelling out the extra hops I added and almost masked the extra malt added. The molasses also noticeably darkened the colour of the beer. I think 200 grams of molasses is at the up most end of how much you could add with out changing the basic characteristics of the beer.

American Budweiser Clone?

Found this recipe in a Coopers website forum, supposedly a Budweiser clone. Coopers original series lager can, 600g dextrose, 400g corn syrup, 500g blonde malt, Saflager s-23 yeast. I substituted the Saflager for Safale US05, brewed around 21 degrees Celsius for 2 weeks. After 8 months in the bottle the beer was extremely clear, pale golden in colour with a tight white head. Unfortunately it has far too much body/carbonation as it fizzes up into froth as soon as it hits your mouth. Taste wise it is along the lines of Budweiser but it massively lacks hops and has a strange almost tangy aroma. I will try this again, but with a little less corn syrup and perhaps some Nobel and/or Hallertauer hops.

Won't be able to taste the difference!

Made with 500 grams of light dry malt, 250 grams of dextrose and one 12 gram Pride of Ringwood hop bag. Also used a yeast starter from a commercial Coopers AusPA, brewed for 2 weeks at 21 degrees Celsius then bottled. After 3 months this beer was very similar to a commercial one and after 6 months the taste was dead on exactly the same. Mine turned out more carbonated than the commercial one but it was slightly darker in colour and had a less distinct aroma. If you were drinking these from a bottle you wouldn’t be able to taste the difference between this and a commercial one.

The Beast returns

Used two kits 1.8kg + one morgans extra pale unhopped brewing malt 1.5 kg. Saflarger S-23 yeast used. fermented at 12-160C. Made upto 35 Litres. Britta water filter system used. Took about a month to ferment. This is how to make beer!

Autralian Bitter

Great beer. Fermented with Saflager W34/70 at 10/11 Deg.C for about 2 weeks primary / 2 weeks secondary. Used one can of Coopers LME. Great taste, nice bitter hop aroma - not very strong but pleasant. Nice head retention and lacing. I just had problems with overcarbonation - I added too much DME. But beer is very clean in taste - no off flavours at all. I'm quite impressed. See on YouTybe: watch?v=IVOnS-e0ZYE
Coopers India Pale Ale (IPA) [Beast] September 11th 2011

Great beer!

My first homebrew. Used 500g LDME and 300g dextrose + kit yeast. The pitching temperature was high (28-30°C), fermentation started 48 hours after pitching. Bubbled through the airlock on day 4. Fermented for 2 weeks at 22-23°C, heat wave raised temperature to 24 in the last few days. After 6 weeks in the bottle it has lost the "green" beer taste and is now perfectly bitter and has great hop aroma. Totally clear. Head retention great, white lacelike foam stays on the glass. Would sure be great after 6 months, but it will not last that long. Nice introduction to homebrewing and it does come out just like on the picture. Taste is great! My kind of ale, so I'll give it a 5. Will do again soon.
Coopers Canadian Blonde Ben September 4th 2011

Nice

Made this as per instructions (Kit plus BE1) along with a Tea Bag of Amarillo finishing hops. Fermented for 2 or 3 weeks (cant quite remember which) at about 20 degrees. When it came to bottling this was super clear. Took about 3 weeks to get any carbonation and then just got better and better. Drunk the last few bottles last night(lasted about 2 months in bottle) and thought I should provide a good review for this kit. Good value on this one too at about $0.75 NZD per 750ml bottle....
Red Ale Dawkfan August 25th 2011

I tossed the coopers yeast like I do for every brewhouse kit and grabbed a higher quality yeast, this time Safale S-04. This is my least favorite of all the brewhouse kits I've tried, nothing really stands out to me. I'm not picking up a lot of malt like a red ale should have. Nothing off putting, but I don't think I'd do this one again unless I tried it with less top up water.

Muntons Conkerwood Dark Ale

I first tasted the Conkerwood at a homebrew competition last year. Waited for abit for my HBS to bring it in. Finally got it. Brewed according to the instructions, 2 cans with water and kit yeast (I have never used muntons yeast before but I have heard good things about it). Bottled at 1014 after almost 2 weeks. Carbed with 1 drop per bottle. Tasted smooth and not overwhelmingly bitter. Nice fragrance and colour. Will only improve with age. Happy with it. Will brew again.
Muntons Barley Wine Sasquatch August 21st 2011

Pleasantly surprised

I set this kit up with amber DME instead of dextrose, but other than that treated is a a normal beer kit with half the total volume. Figured I'd have to wait a long time for it to be good. Not so - fermentation took only a week, and I bottled after 2 weeks in secondary. It was good after 2 weeks in the bottles, but very good after 4. I would buy this kit again for sure.
Woodfordes Headcracker Ale Pete August 18th 2011

The Winter Warmer

Brewed as per instructions. Extra light spray malt used to prime bottles instead of sugar I do this with all the Woodfordes kits. This is strong ale and will work better in glass bottles than a keg and don’t dream of trying it until after 6 weeks in the bottle. (It will be far too treacly) Fabulous complex flavours an undertone of sweetness after an initial bitter bite. Fabulous winter warmer has always brewed to 7.5 or above and if you can leave it for three months even better. Brew now, August for Christmas
