Muntons Cerveza Martin W April 11th 2011

Better than expected

Kept it simple and brewed with 1kg of LDME. I used the yeast supplied and didn't add any extra hops etc. Primary and secondary fermentation temp was pretty high, about 28 degrees. As soon as fermentation had finished it was bottled with one large teaspoon of brewing sugar added to each bottle. The instructions say its ready to drink after two weeks but after trying two bottles I left mine for another two weeks. . . The end result was pleasantly surprising. A light, bright, malty beer perfect for session drinking.

Superb Stout

Great beer, easy to brew. Quick 10 min boil, sealed and cooled, topped up with filtered tap water added hydrated yeast to sanitized fermenter and go. Just the kit plus the supplied Safale SO4 yeast at 24C. On gas at serving pressure 70KPA - ready to drink after 4 days.. Beautiful drop - burnt coffee and dark chocolate flavours. For a kit beer it's hard to fault.

American Premium Ale

Considering I've made almost all of the Brewhouse Kits this one may not be my favorite. But it was a favorite for family and friends. It's as close as it gets to a lager with a ale yeast. I added 4L of water then fermented for 3 wks at 20c then bottle conditioned for 3 wks at 20c and cold conditioned for 2 wks.

CVB!

Brewed with s04 & extra 400g lme. Very nice in the keg, great head, good & clear a fairly medium lightness of colour not awfy light but just nice;-) Now the best bit! Tastes great! lovely hoppy flavour without outrageous bitterness & delicious aroma. Well worth a shot! Will use again for the keg as i think its perfect for kegging. Gonna try Milestone IPA next

TASTE

Lovely full bitter taste, very rounded & large flavour, great dark colour but not in the style of a stout more an old ale or something. Like Diablo before fabulous tight head & light carbonation- smaller bubbles?? I've made 2 brewferm kits now & am extremely impressed. Will try others but i'm sure i'll do this again.
Coopers Original Lager Boabiegringo March 18th 2011

MMMMmmmm...

Have done this twice 1st was my 1st brew & very exciting blah blah took a good time to get rid of the green flavour 5 wks? but was an acceptable 1st brew. Tried it again with tweaks... no don't like the pseudo lager feel i'd say it would be much nicer with a proper lager yeast & some aroma.. Colour is a bit like piss after you have had vitamin tablets a mucky yellow

Breferm Framboise

Brewed as instructed. Turned out great only thing I would do next time is skim and stir on day two and three of fermentation . There was a slight after (bitter) taste.

original / best

Just made this recently. 2 weeks in primary. 4 days bottled already very good to drink clear and tasty. Made with the kit yeast 1kg brew enhancer ( richies) 30g tettnang tea / 20 g dry hop tettnang. Very good tasting "lager"

Looking good at 4 weeks!

Brewed at 69C and left for 2 weeks in primary. Siphoned into Grolsch 450ml bottles with just shy of tsp of corn sugar for priming. Bottles are quite clear, though perhaps a clearing agent would have helped further. Festa brew red ale is not a canned kit, it is a 23L bag of all grain wort with Safale S-04 yeast. Still tastes young at 3-4 weeks (couldn't wait) but has a beautiful velvety head, excellent lacing and retention. Great deep red color. Amazing malt flavor and sweetness. Not really a hoppy beer. Slightly bitter aftertaste and would be great with a little more alcohol (now at ~5% ABV) This one needs a good 6 weeks minimum before opening IMO and should be awesome in 6 months. Will brew again.

Tasty and SMOOTH!

This review is for the Coopers International Series English Bitter. I brewed the kit, 500g light dry malt extract, 450g brew enhancer 1 and 3 table spoons of molasses to 23 litres with the kit yeast. I carbed some longnecks with just one coopers carb drop, effectively halving the carbonation. I preferred the lower carbed beers overall. The taste was great even just after a week and a half in the bottle. A nice deep red coloured ale, with beautiful caramel tastes. Overall a beautiful, smooth brew which I will certainly do again.

Black Rock Whispering Wheat Hoegaarden clone

Well its no perfect Hoegaarden, but who expects that in an extract or even all grain brew seriously? But, its good, I'm blown away that an extract can produce a beer better than redback and HEF wheat beers and some of my brews have been very hoegaarden in taste. Colour is completely wrong but who cares? I recommend this kit. When your wife will shoot you for going all grain, try this.

Down the drain

This was my 1st brew as it came with the kit. Tried a few bottles after 3 weeks and tried to persuade myself it was nice. Now 2 months old and tastes revolting. Will now stick with Coopers and Muntons kits as no issues using these and the end result is marvelous!

Meh

Made this kit with a few extras; a 550g steeping grain and hops kit, 15g of Liberty Hops dry hopped, 750g LDME, 250g maltodextrin and 250g dextrose. Just used the kit yeast and ferment at 18C. It's come out drinkable but, it doesn't do anything for me. Personally I would brew one of the beers from the international range over this any day. Will probably not make this one again.
Black Rock Export Pilsener Josh February 19th 2011

Black Rock Export Pilsener

My first batch of Home Brew was made with the Black Rock Export Pilsener kit.I used 1KG of Muntons HMG Brewer's syrup (substituted puond-for-pound with powdered dextrose). I moved the batch to my bottling bucket after 3 weeks and batch primed with 250g of powdered dextrose, then bottled. After 12 days in bottles, i decided to test the beer to see how it was coming along. it tasted fruitier than I was expecting, but had a relatively strong carbonation. Little to no head retention and a rather bland mouthfeel. Very malty aroma, I would dry-hop this kit if I ever chose to do it again, however I feel that with a few additives like some light malt extract and some Munton's heading powder (or something like it), this Kit would be spectacular. Overall it is a decent kit.
Coopers Stout James February 17th 2011

Stout... in the true sense

Brewed together with the Coopers Dark Ale can, 1kg BE2 and 500g Dextrose. Made up to 23 litres and used both kit yeasts fermented at 18C. Produced a mighty fine, thick, black, high alcohol (8.8%) stout. Was overly bitter, and lacked head retention for first couple of weeks, but now after a month in the bottle the head is tight and holds right until the last drop, and bitterness has mellowed to reveal beautiful flavours!

Can’t quite put my finger on it?

First Cooper kit I have tried and was impressed after my home brew specialist shop “mates” bagged Coopers so much. Made as per instructions (I forget which brew enhancer it recommended), using kit yeast, 2 weeks primary, 2 weeks secondary before bottling. Sampled at 2 weeks, 3 months then 6 months. Beer was extremely clear, golden in colour and well carbonated, but there was just something missing. 12g of Cluster or Pride of Ringwood hops may help? I’m not quite sure but it just needed something extra. 2 and 3 quarters.
Coopers Bitter Groovy G January 29th 2011

Good pint, but.........

This is for the English Bitter kit as well. Hard as hen’s teeth to find! Brewed with kit yeast, 500g of Coopers light dry malt plus 500g of dextrose for an alcohol content of around 5 per cent. Brewed for 2 weeks then bottled. Tasted at 2 weeks for a sample then at 6 months and it still had the same elements of taste, but had mellowed heaps. Beautiful rich red ruby in colour, not much, if any, aroma but a head that clung to the sides of my pint glass with every sip. For me it was heaps better than the Brewcraft English Bitter but there was still something missing. Don’t get me wrong though this is a good drop, but like the painter says below, it does get a bit boring by the third pint. What extra to add? Who knows? Try and let us know.
Brewcraft English Bitter Groovy G January 29th 2011

Not really worth the extra coin.

Brewed with Safale yeast and a Brewers Choice “ultra brew” for 2 weeks then bottled. Tasted at 3 weeks for a sample then at 3 months and there was little difference. Brown in colour and although well carbonated, had a watery mouth-feel. This kit was at the upper end of the price market but, despite the advertising and glowing internet reviews, didn’t really deliver. It massively lacked in body, was a little sweet but never really delivered the rich malty flavour and lacked any hops.
Coopers Mexican Cerveza Groovy G January 29th 2011

Sol clone NOT Corona!

Made to instructions, using recommended brew enhancer and kit yeast. 2 weeks primary then bottled to glass, sampled after 6 months. Golden straw in colour and extremely clear. Head was quick to disappear with zero aroma as per style, but still bubbled in both beer glass and stubbie. I tried this brew on its own and with lemon and lime wedges and it was a nice, refreshing beer in the Mexican style. It tasted exactly like a Sol. If you are after a Corona you will have to do some work on it.
Coopers Bitter George January 27th 2011

Needs something

This is the English Bitter kit. Was really looking forward to this one, as I had heard many nice things about it. After a little over a month in the bottle, it's missing......something. Mouthfeel maybe? Head disapates quickly. I'm guessing those are POR hops, was hoping for Fuggles or EKG. Maybe, like another reviewer mentioned, it needs more time to smooth out the sweetness. If I do this one again, I'd consider some crystal and UK hops for flavor.
