No fuss, good chuggerCoopers managed to nail the low hop, solid malt character of amber ale with this kit. Given the style, there isn't a need to stray too far from the base recipe. It begins with strong toffee notes and this progressively mellows with age. Your reward for waiting is a fairly sweet, mildly bitter drop with some background that, while not overpowering, lets you know it is not an average cleanskin. That is the main benefit, but possibly an achilles heel too. If you insist on being genre perfect, anyhow. Play with the recipe too much and the result may not be the everyman's inoffensive, sessionable brew an amber should be. That doesnt mean you shouldnt try though! Otherwise it is the easiest, no brainer kit to get right. Be careful, it can go down fast on a hot summer afternoon. |

simple Recipe works best.2nd time brewing this kit. 1st time i did with 1 can amber malt extract and finished with equanaught hops. Tasted like complete shite. 2nd time (10 month later) was in desperate need of beer fast so brewed with 1/2 can of light lme & 1/2 be2.20 ltrs. didnt wory bout temp too much just sat in laundry tub (no bath) for 6 days lol. Used repitched us04 yeast both times. moved primary to fridge and crashed for 24 hrs before transferring to keg. force carbed on day 8 and was all done. no added hops. Result: F*#cking Sensational!!! tasted like it had aged to perfection lol.no off flavour just subtle & complex ambery sweetness. kept a nice head too. was a little on the chill hase for 1st half week of drinking but cleared right up in 2nd half. tasted 9/10 in 1st week 10/10 in second. Will add this to rotation & dont see any need to change recepie :) |

American amber ale.Method: 1.7kgs of Cooper's family secret amber ale. 1.5kgs of Thomas Cooper's amber extract. 25gs of cascade hops dry. Kit yeast. Review; ???????????????????? Strong maple and orange flavours, medium to full bodied beer. My only criticism is i should have thrown more hops in! (but as iam reviewing the kit and not my recipe ).. its very hard to falt the kit, easily one of there best kits in there series. |

Family Secret Amber AleWhat a nice beer, put down with kit yeast, 1kg of Brigalow extra malt, 1 Brigalow Galaxy Finishing Hops all bought from Big W on special, brewed for 3 weeks in the tub then bottled, Wow, after 2 weeks it was ok but 6 weeks later double wow, this is really a good beer, when your mates come around and you pour them a beer and non of them pick it as a homebrew and even say thats a nice beer what is it, you know your onto a winner, i have another bubbling away as we speak. would recommend this brew for anyone who just wants a beer that tastes and smells like a beer. |

A good baseBrewed with Kit and 1kg LDM. Great dark amber colour, and nice sweet malt taste balanced with moderate bitterness. Not a bad beer in it's own right, but less malt driven than the amber ales I enjoy, and a lack of aroma which can be expected without the addition of hops. Also found the bitterness a bit overpowering over the malt flavours. I will add specialty grains, perhaps crystal and chocoalate malt next time, as well as dry hop with galaxy to add more malt flavour and hop aroma. Interested to see how the flavours develop as the beer ages. Defintely recommend this as a good base to play with. |
