Very Good!I tried Hombrewing about 30 years ago. The results were horrid enough to make me stop. I started again recently and have done 7 Wherry brews all of which were drinkable, the more recent being very good. I'm a lot more patient than I was 30 years back and have established that the following has produced really good beer: 1) throw away the instructions - they are worse than useless! 2) pitch at no more than 20 degrees 3) Primary ferment for min 3 weeks - it seems longer is better within reason (up to a few months) 4) secondary ferment (I use a barrel) min 3 weeks - it tastes a bit 'rubbery' when first moved to secondary but 3 weeks conditioning solves this I've experimented with various water methods but found that just boiling the malt in a few pints of water to help with the dissolving and then just adding cold from the tap works for me. I use 70g sugar for the secondary. I've had 3 or 4 consistently good beers using this method. Just started a Muntons American Pale using the same method but it looks as though it might not start although I've read that the american yeasts can take 3-4 days so will wait and see.
I give this a 5 because with a bit of tinkering as above I think it is a great one to start with as it is so reliable. |

Woodfordes wherryI bought a number of these kits from wilkos when they were on special. First two i made as per instructions and both came out rubbish. Had that homebrew twang to them and way too bitter. After that i split all the cans up and used them in my own hybrid extract recipes. I would not recomend this kit.

Best English bitter kitI love this kit. Comes almost everything you need to make a good beer (I add 500gr light malt extract or sugar) and after two months bottle conditioning the taste was priceless.
Pros: comes with good yeast 3kg malt extract Really tasty
Comes:takes about 2 months for best results No dry hops included |

First kit for newbieEasy to follow instructions, but would have liked a bit more detail.
The beer has now been bottled 3 weeks and very drinkable.
For my first ever brew I am very impressed. |

Woodforde's WherryAn excellent kit, dead easy to do, good results and a very drinkable pint of standard English bitter at the end. Recommended.

Very bitterMade 40 pints of wherry exactly as per instructions and after 9 weeks in a barrel, put the co2 on and left to carbonate for further 4 days. Brew came out very clear with good head that stays to the bottom but to me tastes exceptionally bitter in aftertaste, so much so that it detracts from the brew, is this a common problem? Is there something I may have done wrong? Followed to the letter, added nothing extra, did not try any experimenting. Shame as it was almost great but is so very very bitter??? |

A brilliant first choiceBought this for my first attempt at brewing beer as it's the father-in-law's favourite. Unfortunately he didn't get a chance to taste it as I drank it all myself, it was great! I had a pint of Wherry from a nearby pub and can honestly say I preferred mine although I think this was because of the Muntons Beer Enhancer I used gave it a sweetness which worked for me. Very simple, great results, I honestly couldn't believe it was something I made myself! |

Great quaffing aleJust tried this for the first time, having been a firm fan of their "Nelsons Revenge" (5%) which has been my main stay bitter for years. Have to admit that I prefer the Wherry (4.5%). Even kegging & drinking 3 days after fermentation, this beer is perfectly balanced & is a superb reprsentation of an English style ale - fully deserving the "CAMRA" Champion New Brewery Beer of Britain award it won in 1990/1. |

LungmanFor a home brew kit, this is absolutely superb. Earthy, tasty, with a sturdy head and full of character, this hearty beer shows the others how it's done. Using only the kit, i followed the instructions and it came out better than any other kit i've tried. Considering it's just a kit and travelled halfway across the globe, this kit deserves every one of my five-star rating. |
