Coopers Dark Ale | January 11th 2005
My second brew too!Recently found a few old ones from 2003, and still good. Very much what you'd expect from a dark ale, although in hindsight tastes a little shallow from only using 1kg dextrose with the kit. Done with a body brew or dark malt this would be a great brew. |

Malt Shovel Summer Wheat Beer | January 11th 2005
Impressive wheat beerGreat mouthfeel and of complex character, this wheat beer from the Malt Shovel Brewery is a great example of how a wheat beer should taste. It is very smooth to drink, and is characterised by its lingering pleasant aftertaste. Originally done to 18ltrs with 1/2kg dextrose and brewed in summer, it was weak and unpleasant, but done again to 11.5ltrs with cultured yeast from Hoegaarden bottles, it was superb. Done with some coriander and curacao orange peel, it might taste like the real thing! |

X-TRACT Pilsner 3kg | January 11th 2005
Impressive Australian-style PilsnerMade as is by my brother-in-law as his second brew, in summer of all times, it came out surprisingly good. While more like a Reschs Pilsner than Pilsner Urquell, it's far superior as it has aroma and taste beyond Reschs Pilsner's characteristic dominant bitterness. Great for summer drinking, this beer has you contemplating the complex flavours in the pleasant lingering aftertaste. This kit manages to make a good beer without having to add anything. Highly recommended! |

Woodfordes Wherry Bitter | January 10th 2005
LungmanFor a home brew kit, this is absolutely superb. Earthy, tasty, with a sturdy head and full of character, this hearty beer shows the others how it's done. Using only the kit, i followed the instructions and it came out better than any other kit i've tried. Considering it's just a kit and travelled halfway across the globe, this kit deserves every one of my five-star rating. |

Cascade Chocolate Mohogany Porter | January 10th 2005
Gutless effortCUB have obviously put more effort into winning our wallets than our hearts with this lame attempt at beer, which is a porter in name only. In order to make this as inoffensive to as many people as possible, they have offended home brewers who take risks with their brews in order to try and make a beer with flavour and character. There is no such attempt here. Pretty labels does not a beer make. Tasteless, bland, forgettable. Made with 1.5Kg Coopers LME, somewhat diluting the colour. |

Brupaks Birkby Bitter | January 10th 2005
As hearty as a Sunday roastAnother superb kit from the old dart. This full-bodied bitter comes with a bag of hops to add to the fermeter on the third day, imparting a wonderful fragrance not found in kit beers alone. Comes out quite similar to the Woodfordes Wherry Bitter, but more aromatic, with a head that keeps its form all the way to the bottom of the glass. |

Coopers Bavarian Lager | January 10th 2005
Good effort from CoopersDistinct of taste, this kit leaves no doubt as to the style it is trying to emulate. Made with nothing more than 1kg dextrose, this beer still managed to have character and flavour. Should be even better with a body brew or as an all-malt brew. |
