A great stout, says an IrishmanI'm a Guinness drinker when I'm out for a pint, at home here in Ireland, where it tastes better than anywhere else in the world (us Irish are great at travelling, but Guinness is not!) But I am more than happy to put Arthurs brew aside for my Coopers stout. This is not a stout of the same style as the famous G, but a stout so good it's worthy of mention beside it. This is my first go at this kit and I made with 1kg BKE, 500g dark DME, 200g Golden Syurp to 23l, primmed in King Keg with 150g Golden Syurp. At 4 weeks kegged tastes just fantastic, a really easy drinker. It has all the flavours you want in a stout but without being very heavy. I have done the Coopers Irish stout a couple of times before, not sure as yet which I prefair. I have another C's Irish in second keg conditioning now, will be able to do straight comp in a few weeks (if any of this stuff is still left!) Will be doing another brew of this right away! Oh, and I took readings, didn't write them down and forget them now, so not sure how the ABV worked out, but using the recipe above it has a right kick, must be a good 5% plus???? |

important control fermentation temp.i did twice. 1 with dry hopping with cascade, miitelfrüh and herbsbrucker like 30.g but it fermentated around 25. dry hops taste were very obvios but u might feel the taste of wine. winy taste probably becouse of 25 C. then i made it around 20C, just dark malt and table sugar half to half. turned out great. and it was ready to drink in 2 week which is very fast. anyway it is nice stout for a stout lover, just check the temprature |

Incredibly good stoutAn excellent kit that produces incredibly good stout (if done right) :) I used 1x Coopers Stout kit (1.7 kg), 1x Coopers Amber LME (1.5 kg), 1x Coopers BE3 (500 g Light DME, 300 g dextrose, 200 g maltodextrin) topped up to 23 L, fermented Danstar Nottingham Ale yeast for 2 w at 16 degrees celsius, and primed with 110 g of dextrose. ABV 5.4%, 42 IBU, 2.0 vol. CO2. |

second brewDid it with 500g dark spray malt and 500g dextrose. Fermented around 20-21 degrees for 7 days. Tasted it after a week in bottle. Really strange flavour, smelled good though, it was dry and kinda water-ish. It is my second brew, really disappointed. |

Another excellent kit from Cooper'sIf you like stout then you'll love this kit but beware that it can be very vigorous while fermenting so either stand your fermenting vessel in a bigger bucket or put some towels underneath it! My preference is to brew the kit with 1kg of medium dried spray malt and 300g of raw cane sugar. I brew it short, to 21 litres and move it to a second fermentation vessel after a week in the primary one. After the second week it's ready for bottling but a few hours beforehand I draw off a small quantity into a saucepan and use this to dissolve 110g of black treacle which is then added back to the beer. Made up as above this beer will be excellent after only a couple of weeks in the bottle but will really improve with more maturation time, say 2+ months, if you can resist it that long! |

Awesome kit!My third homebrew. Brewed with 500g LDME and 300g dex, pitched with kit yeast, made to 22 litres. After 2 months in the bottle it is amazing. The head retention is good, mouthfeel great and the taste is crazy cool. People who tasted it couldn't believe it was homebrew. Will probably add some roasted barley and crystal malt next time. Might also use it as a base for double chocolate stout. Try this kit! |

Stout... in the true senseBrewed together with the Coopers Dark Ale can, 1kg BE2 and 500g Dextrose. Made up to 23 litres and used both kit yeasts fermented at 18C. Produced a mighty fine, thick, black, high alcohol (8.8%) stout. Was overly bitter, and lacked head retention for first couple of weeks, but now after a month in the bottle the head is tight and holds right until the last drop, and bitterness has mellowed to reveal beautiful flavours! |

Ditch's StoutMade this one up to a recipe from a UK home brewing site. The recipe is quite simple: one tin of OS Stout, 1KG dary dry malt, kit yeast - thats it. Made up to 21 litres, about 5 US gallons. One option is to add a "mug full" of plain sugar, but I decided not to. Brewed at 68F [20C] for 10 days then bottled. Tasted one - well, OK, two, after 4 days and it was already fantastic. Roasty, toasty, with licorice tones - and I don;t even like licorice! Strongly recommended recipe. |

This is a STOUT!Wow, this is definitely one of my favourite brew kits, have done 4 of these now! Each has been a little different but all have been great. Mostly done with stock yeast and Brew enhancer II up to 21 L which has yielded consistently creamy, rich, almost coffee like brew with a fantastic after-taste. Have also added brigolo (was skeptical but it paid off) hops tablet (50%) in each of two brews which definitely added extra hops to the mix. My dad thinks it is too strong with this but I think its fantastic. Finally have done a brew with a single or double espresso shot in each bottle and let me tell you this was WAY TO MUCH coffee the double shot ones was like drinking beer flavoured coffee so I would recommend less but it was interesting. Anyway highly recommended with BE2! |

delicious! This was my 5th brew and it's the best so far. Brewed at 21ºC with Coopers BE1 plus 1kg Coopers LDME, pitched with Safale-04 yeast. 20 days in fermenter and it was already tasting decent. Now, 4 weeks in the bottle and it just keeps getting better and better. Definitely want to make this again soon. |

Best Stout yetSteeped 150 grams of chocolate malt for 30mins and added to the barrel with 1 can of coopers stout and 1kg of copper nut brew enhancer. Filled barrel up to 19L. OG reading was 1032 but this was because I hadnt mixed the can in enough, 24hrs into fermentation realised it wasnt mixed properly and gave it a stir. Brewed at 24C for 8 days. Bottling SG was 1011, at bottling tasted great, surprisingly similar to Guinness and chocolate flavour came through brilliantly. Afetr a week in the bottle its good but I wish I had left it flat to be honest. |

You Can't Go WrongExcellent beer! I've made this several times, straight, with DME, and with different sugars. All were delicious. A refreshing flavourful beer with a hint of bitterness at the end. Great beer. This kit always has an active fermentation, so a larger pail might be a good investment. This kit won't let you down. It does improve with age, but it will be drunk quickly once your friends try it. |

Not bad4+ weeks in in the bottle and it keeps getting better. My husband says there is too much carbonation. I think it is too light, but we are both drinking it and enjoying it. Friends and family have said, "I don't like stout, but this is really good." Brewed as directed by Coopers, but used 750 g. dextrose rather than a kilo. I would like to try is again but with the two can method. |

StoutishNot a stout person but I though I'll give it a go. Kit plus BE2 23litres. After one month flat and very bitter, burn taste. After 6 months need creamy head and mellow taste. Nice to have on a Sunday lunch time drink. Just bottled version 2 with 1.5kg can of plain malt extract. This one has a less burnt taste. Still young in the bottle. More to come. |

Top Brew!I mixed a can with 1kg of white sugar and 500g of golden syrup and fermented around 21degrees. This one tasted great! It was a smash hit with the friends and it ran out pretty quick. Now I'm fermenting a pantry raid version with left overs from other beers. |

My first homebrewJust finished bottling this and I'm drinking a glass straight from the fermenter. It surprisingly tastes just like coopers best extra stout, just warm and with no bubbles. Mild burnt and bitter tastes with a very clean aftertaste. It smells a bit fruity though. I made it with 20l water and 1kg of regular white sugar in a plastic water cooler thing with a brigalow airlock and an aquarium heater I got from the pet shop. I let it ferment at 23c for four days as the instructions said. It volcanoed out of the airlock on the second day and made a big mess. I'm keen to know what this will be like after it has sat in the bottles for a few weeks. Good introduction to home brewing I think. |

top stoutdid this one with stout booster (250 ddme, 250 dex, 500 black sugar) & an extra kilo of ddme. never heard of black sugar but thats what it said on the label. used brewers choice ale yeast & kept at around 22 deg for 7 days. 5 weeks in the bottle and this is a fantastic stout, nice bitterness, not overly burnt & great fine head which stays the hole glass. will make this one again. |

Had to make anotherLoved this kit so much had to try again, this time without household sugar to see what the difference is. Used 500g Mutons Medium Spraymalt + 300g dextrose. OG=1.035 at 24°C. Big frothy mess (again) and racked to another carboy at day 4 when SG=1.010 at 20°C. FG=1.008 at 21°C on day 17. Primed with 180g household sugar. After three weeks started to consume and even nicer than with sugar. Smooth and creamy with a nice bubbly head. This one will certainly be made over and over again. Don't care how big your headspace is: use a blow-off hosefor this one. |

coopers stout - first time1 can can Coopers Stout, 1 kg Coopers BE2. This was my first brew after a 2 year hiatus in which I previously had very ordinary (awful) results with home brew. Was very careful with sterilisation as I think this may have been the problem previously. Big krausen blew all water from airlock, so was sceptical that this brew would work. It's now 4 weeks since bottling, result is excellent. Not overly alcoholic, just a nice easy drinking drinking stout. I would say it is idiot proof, will definitely brew again. |

Great intro to hobbyFollowed kit instructions: 1 kg of sugar added & used supplied yeast. Started in glass carboy with airlock at ~30°C & wow: bubbling froth all over the place & a mess everywhere 12 hours later. Overfrothed a few days & did not determine OG. Waited a week & got an uncorrected FG of 1.005 - not corrected for temperature (probably ~25°C). Conditioned a week & chilled in fridge for 2 days. Had first bottle with brother. Couldn’t believe how good it was, better than the other commercial beers we sampled that evening. This stout was a rich & dark-coloured drink with a nice but short-lived tan-colured head, pleasantly bitter with a licorice- like flavour. Very pleasant & rewarding way to get into homebrewing. Will try experimenting with this in the future. Top notch! |

Idiot proof (nearly)This kit is a regular for me. By the book or boozy style it has always tasted great. . I added 25ml liqourice extract and a good amount of light dry malt, used souther german WLP838 as the yeast and it came out very very noice. . Same time made with 838, extra malt and up to 18 litres, pretty tasty, good nightcap stuff. . You really have to make a major error not to have a winner with this kit. |

Good Start for Stout LoversI'm a bit biased here, cause I find it impossible to make a bad stout. The coopers kit is a good introduction to the style. Also good for a two can brew if you're looking for something with some body and bitterness. |

bitter dark and full of goodnessA good quality Kit. I find the balance a bit bitter perhaps though this is more the style and my tastes. I have brewed this with an Amber Malt Mix (dried with 500 amber malt,250 Maltodex, 250 dex) and was happy! Added this Kit to a Coopers Dark Ale Kit with late boil Goldings and 1 kg roasted pear fruit and loved the result. |

My 6th BrewThis one got better with age!! I used a kit plus Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 and 630gm of Golden Syrup I found in the pantry. Made up to 19lt. It tasted very burnt and bitter initially...but over time it mellowed into a very smooth stout. Also had a bit of a kick at 8.6%!!! |

VersatileThis kit has always given me great results. Kit plus malt extract and dextrose, used as the base for a partial mash oatmeal stout, the base of a chocolate stout, and the inimitable two can screamer (with a can of Coopers Draught). Never a bad batch. I have come close to a Coopers Best Extra Stout with this kit, a partial mash of JW Pale Ale, some roasted barley and golden syrup fermented with yeast recultured from Coopers Pale Ale bottles. Fantastic kit. |

Great StoutI used a simple recipe which never seems to fail. 1 can of coopers stout, 1 can of liquid dark malt extract (black rock) 10-15 mls of licorce essence. Made to 20 litres sg 1050 fg 1014, brewed around 20 degrees. Racked and cold conditioned. Bulk primed with 100g brown sugar 40g castor sugar. At 3 weeks has creamy head and tastes like the coopers! Cant wait for a taste test in 3 months! |

Stouter Stout recipeGreat beer! If you're a stout lover this is as close to the mark as you'd want. Tastes like a Southwark/Guiness combination. Added an extra litre to the Coopers Stouter stout recipe and ended up with approx 24 bottles. Second day temperature reached 30C during primary fermentation and the airlock filled with stout that bubbled out of the top. The brew recovered well however and after only 6 weeks in the bottle this beer is beautiful, only seems to get better. |

Not badFirst brew in 12 years, Rushed it. 2L of boiling water, can on top of this, 1kg white sugar and then straight un-boiled tap water to 23L, threw the kit yeast in and put the lid on. 24 hours til the airlock started bubbling. VERY active! blew out airlock, messy. OG 1040, FG 1008. So; white sugar, no boiling, no aeration, didn't rehydrate yeast, 12yo sterilizer and over temp! 2 months later, no head retention(surprise!) tastes better than expected!! Will do again properly, and new review. |
