Midstrenght session ale.Method : 1.7kgs of Cooper's Pale ale 500g's of light dried malt Hops; I've used galaxy /pride of ringwood /saaz/Fuggles. Yeast; love the lager/ale yeast that comes stock, used other yeast never quite as good. Review; This kit is in my opinion Cooper's best. It has a strong malt back bone and the wheat and crystal grain in the kit make it a pure session ale. Does it taste like the green label though?? I think if you re-culture the yeast with a kilo of lme your on the money for sure. |

Great dropBrewed at 18 degrees with us 05 yeast and dry hopped for 6 days with citra. Tasted like grass out of the fermenter but after a few weeks in the keg turned out to be a crowd favourite. |

Better than expectedAfter making a few fancy brews I decided to make this one as cheaply as possible. 1.7kg tin of Coopers Aussie Pale Ale + 1kg of dextrose to 23.5l with kit yeast. Fermented at 22 degrees for 7 days then bottled. I was not expecting much, but after 3 weeks in the bottle I opened one. I was pleasantly susprised, it is very drinkable with no "twang" like I expected. As it gets old it jut gets better. Will definitely make it again. |

As good as the real thingAlways a good tasting kit no matter what. I prefer to use a BE2 (slightly lower fg over all malt and the final product has a more attractive, lighter colour as most would expect from a draught tap beer, making styles too dark is a mistake most brewers make. Throw an additional couple hundred gms of malt in too for a higher abv) control your temperature, brew it as-is or dry hop with some specialty hops you'll have a beer just as good as a Little Creatures or Fat Yak. I have some US-05 on hand but have never used it with this kit because I fear it might not be as good. That's saying something. It's an excellent base for alot of 'test trial' hamster beers, as is the Coopers Mexican cerveza kit. I use that alot too if I'm looking for a wort without the bitterness ibu. The Mexican kit has about the same bitterness as a VB CUB style draught beer |

Keep it simpleBeen making the pale ale kit for quite a while, one of the best was just the kit plus dextrose and dry hop pride of Ringwood, so close to the real thing! Have made with 3 hops plus malts but the basic recipe is the best |

Drinkable ?Kit & Kilo, no mods. This one reminded me of what my HB tasted like when I started back in 1988 ... pretty grim in other words. The result would be just about drinkable if I were young, stupid, unemployed, totally broke and I needed to get drunk. I could force it down. Just. Most of the reviews on the site seem pretty positive. Most of the reviewers however seem to have tarted up the kit in some way. Maybe I am spoilt and the comparison with AG puts this kit in a poor light. ? Drinkable? Not for me, not today. I would not buy this kit again. It gets a two star rating solely because the kit does produce a beer of some sorts, just. |

Nice Pale Ale to tune to your likingThis was my very first brew. I used only 250g of DME and 500g of dextrose. I added some NB bittering hops during the boil, I wish I had added some aroma hops as well. 8 days in primary, followed by 2 weeks in the bottle. I may do this kit again some day as it's a really nice base. I would definitely suggest to: a) use at least 1kg of DME or LME, b) do a short boil with some Cascade or Amarillo. You don't really need additional bittering, c) use no more than 19L of water, d) light dry hop with maybe 15g of your aroma hop. |

COOPERS PALE ALE STYLEThomas Coopers Australian Pale Ale, 1 kg Ultra Brew, Safale US-56 yeast (standard Method), + 12 g MB 89 hops (standard method). Finings added on day 4. Fermented for 8 days. OG – 1038 FG – 1010 - ABV% - 3,8% +0,5% = 4,3% Hops added at hot water stage and left for full fermentation. The hops bag was split when I added it to the fermenter which caused a lot of particle’s to be left behind, I should have racked the beer but though the finings might do the trick, rookies mistake. At least I have learnt my lesson. The finings created some big lumps probably from the burst hops bag, the beer also looked a lot darker than pale ale should. First few have bottles drunk after 4 weeks had a lot of bits in it and pretty cloudy. Not the best to date and I am not sure if I would try this recipe again in a hurry. The beer is very green and doesn’t taste of much which is surprising, I expected more from the hops. |

Used as a base kit - APAI just sampled a brew I put down a few weeks ago using this kit and I am very happy with the results enough though it is quite young. I was looking to make an APA. I steeped 500 grams light crystal malt for 30 mins (65C) then to the steeped liquid I added water topping it to 5 litres, added a 1.5 kg can of light malt extract into a 20 min boil, 30 grams cascahe at 15, 30 grams cascade at then again 30 grams at flame out. Fermented with 1056 wyeast for 2 weeks then into the bottles (added gelatine 3 days before bottling to the primary fermenter). I was quite surprised how good it tasted, as good as some of my all grain brews I used to do years ago but a lot less work. |

Great base kitUsed 500g LDME and 300g Dex first time, kit yeast, fermented at 22°C for 2 weeks. SG 1040 FG 1010. Nice bitternes, nice head, great beer, but missing something. So next time I used 500g LDME, 200g crystal, 50g roasted barley, Safale-04, 15g Sytrian Golding bil 15 min, 15g Styrian golding for dry hopping (5 days) and made Irish red ale. Fermented at 21°C for 2 weeks. SG 1036 FG 1010 Tastes awesome. It has a Fullers IPA taste, complex aftertase and great hop aroma. Will make again this way, but with more LDME for some more strength. Kit gets 4 starts, but can be improved! |

Won't be able to taste the difference!Made with 500 grams of light dry malt, 250 grams of dextrose and one 12 gram Pride of Ringwood hop bag. Also used a yeast starter from a commercial Coopers AusPA, brewed for 2 weeks at 21 degrees Celsius then bottled. After 3 months this beer was very similar to a commercial one and after 6 months the taste was dead on exactly the same. Mine turned out more carbonated than the commercial one but it was slightly darker in colour and had a less distinct aroma. If you were drinking these from a bottle you wouldn’t be able to taste the difference between this and a commercial one. |

Coopers APA with Cocoa Nibs & Amarillo HopsI've brewed this kit 3 times and this would be my best batch so far. Coopers APA + Coopers Brew Enhancer No.2 + additional 250gm of LDME. Made up to 17Litres (instead of normal 23Litres). 15gm Amarillo Hop Bag steeped in 500mls boiling for 15mins added to fermenter along with 30gms of Cocoa Nibs. Fermented for 11 days at approx 20C. Now 4 weeks in bottle and starting to taste very nice. A lot more complex in taste than the standard APA recipe. Amarillo gives a nice citrus type flavour/aroma. I've made this with the Cascade hops, which is also very nice (grapefuit flavour/aroma). ABV = approx 6.7%. Could possibly add more Cocoa nibs to give the beer more of a chocolately edge. |

Pretty pleased with thisMade with Brew Enhancer number #2 and added boiled up 100g Southern Cross hop pellets and sieved into the fermenter. 2 weeks at approx 22 degrees then 2 weeks in the bottle and this is very very nice-was worried it was gonna be overkill with the hops but no at all. Shame its nearly all gone. Will give this 5/5 |

Coopers PaleMade with Brew Enhancer 2 and the yeast supplied with the kit. Fermented at around 26 Degrees Centigrade for 7 days then racked to another fermenter for 4 days before kegging. My first ever kegged beer. I also bottled 4 longnecks (about 22 litres in total). A nice m alty brew with good head retention and foam sticks to the side of the glass. Must have been good because it was all gone within a few weeks with some help from my mates. Would be happy to make it again, but I am off to try others |

APACoopers APA kit with 500gr of sugar. Bioled the sugar and the left over bits on the inside of can for 15 mins, during which time I added 2 1/2 oz of Amarillo whole hops. Fermented primary only for 10 days. I drank my first bottle after only 4 days and it was like heaven! Would recommend it to anyone! |

Overall very nice easy brew, great session beer for with the mates, and will certainly be making again! |

Second time was with cascade hop tea , makes a big difference and moves it from 2.5 star to 4.5 star. you could tweak this kit to be 5 star easily with a few grains and aroma hop, must try it with recultured cooper yeast |

OopsMediocre rating probably my fault. Per instructions but with safale s-04 @ 18C for 2 wks. Also added 12g POR finishing hops (Morgans tea bag), largely on strength of previous reviews. Danger, Will Robinson. POR is notorious for good reason and the result was quite over the top. Coopers use pretty much only POR and there are a couple of worts where they're strong to begin with - guess this is another one. |

back to basicsI,ve decided to try the recommended brewing instructions by Coopers with their kits to see if all this added cost of extras ie; grains, hops and yeast are really worth it.After all sometimes we can just be looking to brew somthing that is easy drinking and won't break the bank or disapoint. So off to BigW I went for a kit and a BE2 all for less than $20.Brewed the beer as per, ecsept for a second pack of yeast, thats what you get when you keep on buying other yeasts. Anyway the beer turned out super after 2 weeks@ 20C and 2 weeks in keg before gasing and drinking. This beer would suite anyone looking to brew on a budget or for after mowing the lawn or watching the footy or just getting pissed! |

Good base to work fromUsed the tin with BE#2, 500g LDME and 400g Crystal malt, Centennial and Amarillo hops with US05 yeast. Did a 40 minute boil with the steeped liquor and a bit of the LDME. Added 10g Centennial at 40mins, 18g at 20mins and then 12g of Amarillo at flameout. Brewed at 18 degrees for a week and a half. Increasing the hop profile and using a good quality yeast has created a very drinkable ale. Well balanced with crystal malt and added hops at the forefront and then the silky malt with a lingering bitterness from the kit. Would definitely make this recipe again! |

Keep it cool1 x Coopers APA can, 1 x Coopers BE2, 1 x Saaz hop teabag (steeped for 10min in cup of boiling water and the lot thrown in), 1 sachet of Fermentis US-05 yeast. Brewed at 18 deg C using a collapsable esky and ice bottles. Got to 1.010 in 2 weeks but left it for a total of 3 weeks then bottled with 2x carb drops per long neck. After six weeks it is crystal clear, light golden in colour, head lasts all the way, carbonation is perfect with very fine beading, not a hint of 'homebrewyness'. Saaz is very dominant, would probably use Cascade next time which is more true to style. Great kit if brewed at a low temp and a good dry yeast is used. |

Coopers Australian Pale AleMade up to 22L with 500g LDME and 300g Dextrose, with 10g Pride of Ringwood hops boiled for 15min with a half litre of water and 50g of the LDME. Stock yeast run at 18'c. Came out a very clean, clear beer with a decent amount of body and malt profile, backed up by the extra hopping. Haven't had a commercial Pale Ale in a while but rekon this hits the spot! 5 stars. |

Great, easy beerHave brewed this several times. All times just used a BE2. Just used the packet yeast. Steeped 12g POR for 20 mins. Second time thought I would go in a different direction and actually used SAAZ just as an aroma hops. Fermented at around 22-23 degrees. OG 1040 FG 1012. Primary fermentation for around 10 days. This is an, easy & great beer to make. ANd the price is great too! Can be drunk in around 2-3 weeks, but as with most, time is a major helper. One criticism is that yeast packs too tightly in bottom of bottle. Highly recommeded!!! |

Simple Pale AleCan + Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 + I decided to culture yeast from 2 stubbies of CPA into a 1L starter for 2 days. At full krausen I dumped it into the mix. Also boiled 20g Pride of Ringwood hops for 30mins and 10g at flame out. Primary for 18 days at 19C, SG 1049 FG 1009. After 3 weeks in the bottle it's nicely carbonated but lacks head and tastes a little on the weak side. It does show hints of the classic CPA, mostly I think due to the PoR addition, but the 500g of dextrose in the BE2 hasn't helped. I would do the mix up to about 20L and probably just add 1kg of light malt instead of the BE2. |

getting betterits been 6 weeks - the brew with kit, BE2 and recultured coopers yeast - very drinkable now, a lighter version of CPA - needs probably another few weeks to be a great drop, but is very promising. Not exactly malty like the real thing, would need a 1.5kg coopers LME to get close to emulating the original, and maybe 12g PoR. This kit needs time but thanks to the cultured coopers yeast its got a great taste to it. |

needs additionsBrewed two batches. The first was kit, BE2 and rehydrated CPA from 3 stubbies - brewed around 20*. After 20odd days it had alright carbonation, poor head retention, lacked bitterness, and was a little sweet. Hopefully it will improve after another couple of months The second batch was kit, 1kg light dry malt extract, 12.5g PoR (bitterness) and rehydated CPA yeast. Tastes much better. Actually tastes a little like the real thing, hopefully will only get better. |

Coopers Australian Pale AleBrewed this in October by adding 1 pound Coopers light DME and .5 pound corn suger, kit yeast, to make 5 US gallaons. Ferment went well, at about 65F. Kegged with 1/3 cup corn sugar. Cracked the keg last night. It's a nice beer, but I may have it too cold, as the esters from the yeast are weak, and the overall taste is still a buit harsh. A very nice beer, though. I've done all kinds of brewing, from all grain to partial mash to mini-mash to all extract, and I'd say this is one of the nicest beers I've made. I will make this again. |

Golden AleMade this kit three times recently. A Golden Ale with recultured PA bottle yeast, golden syrup and goldings hops. Fermented too hot up to 28 deg as some *&^%$ turned power off on fridge. Still turned out a very nice drop with excellent head retention. Also, made strictly to can instructions with BE2 as a lawn mower ale. In first months it was just a thirst quencher, but now last few bottles are 5 months old and getting quite tasty and much improved. I have bought more borttles so I can increase my storage time. Finally, used as a base for a traditional English Pale Ale with additions of multiple hop varieties and used amber and specialty malts. Turned out absolutely awesome. A great kit for experimenting. |

its ok :first time made it per instructions but only to 20l-used coopers malt/dextrose 1kg and primed with same. second time used coopers dried malt 1kg 18litres and primed with malt. First one-too watery for my tastes. Second one was thicker- better mouth feel. DOES NOT taste like the reel thing nor comes close. Not nearly as bitter as the real deal . But is still a very good kit beer worth trying. I recon you could get it to taste more like the reel thing by adding pride of ringwood or goldings hopps. :) and culturing genuine coopers yeast. |

Pale AleExcellent: I tried some variations, but wasn't impressed. Now i just follow the instruction; BE No.2, but I toss the dehydrated kit yeast away, treat myself to a bottle of the real thing, down to the last 4 cm deep, and reculture that yeast in the bottle. This is as close as HB can get to what's behind the green & white label. Brewers who want to dress it up, probably don't like Coopers Australian Pale Ale anyway. Remember, the supended yeast haze is an important flavour component. |

Cooper's PA #2To test my recommendation that this is a good base for experimentation I did the following: 1.7 KG Cooper’s PA kit + 700gms Morgan’s Lager LME + 100 gms Cooper’s DME + 14 gms POR Hops boiled with 2 l water then added to fermenter and topped up to 19l. Fermented with yeast cultured from bottle of Cooper's PA. MB 89 hop bag added when racked to secondary. Bottled. After 1/12= v. good pale ale, just about the equal of many an imported English ale. Can only improve with conditioning. |

Made up in summer as per instructions with Brew Enhancer #1. Vigorous fermentation - as is typical for Cooper's yeast in summertime. No further brew notes - my first brew after 10 years! Nice golden colour and good hop character. True beer flavours rather than 'home brew' flavours predominate. Good base for further experimentation.

Not badI've made this beer a few ways … 1kg "brewing sugar" (don't do it - nasty homebrew taste from the 70% sucrose); 1kg brew enhancer 2 (not bad but a bit light on for taste); 750g dry light malt + 250g dextrose (better than BE2, quite drinkable but nothing outstanding); 1kg dry light malt (too sweet with an unpleasant, dull, soapy taste; hops flavour completely smothered by the malt). Similar in style to the commercial version but doesn’t have the complexity or depth of flavour. |

Not bad!2nd brew attempt, made with brew enhancer 1 with kit yeast and brewed @18-22C. After a few weeks bottling it has turned out great, not 100% exactly like the real deal but very drinkable and popular with the tasters |

Very Good AleWas my first brew after a long break and only my third one in total I just used the coopers kit and the coopers 2 enhancer. I used the yeast suppied with the kit, and brewed at between 22-24. SG 1040 FG 1010. No racking or cold conditioning and I bottled and primed with castor sugar. After two months it has matured well and although I dont think it tastes much like the orginal it is a one of the best simple kit and kilo brews I have tasted. Other yeast and added hopps would make even better |

Bee's DickMade this with 1.5kg of liquid malt and 500 gms of macadamia farm honey. Early on this was a very average drop but after 6 months in the bottle became very tasty indeed. You could just taste a slight honey flavour in the afer taste. |

Not hard to get close to the real thingThe kit recommends Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 as an addition and without too much help it gets close to the real thing. I haven't made it with the standard yeast, but pitching two sachets would improve it. I brewed it with BE2 and recultured Cooper's yeast and at two months it was good, but lacking body compared to the genuine article. A second run with an additional 500g of liquid malt made it very very close to the real thing. For this reason I give it a 4 instead of a 3. |

Used brew enhancer 2 as recommended, used safale yeast and dryhopped in secondary with 12 grams of cascade hops. Very impressed as this was a rush job to fill my empty kegs, good drinking after 1 week in primary and 1 week in secondary. Will do again, maybe next time more cascade hops :-)

blandMade up with enhancer 2 and dry yeast provided.18/20c Lacked body and was nothing like the real thing. Dodgy yeasty aftertaste from that crappy dry yeast they supply with kits. |

Highly recommendedBrewed with 1kg Ultrabrew (500g dextrose, 250g light malt extract, 250g maltodextrin) and dry-hopped with 12g Pride of Ringwood hop teabag. Tasted pretty ordinary ice-cold (when it had spent a few days in the fridge and was consumed at about 4 degrees C) but at 8-10 deg C (2hrs or so in fridge or 20-30 minutes in freezer) the flavour and aroma was exceptional. Strangely low alcohol content though, only came in at about 3.5% fully fermented out, though possibly due to error in brewing. |

My third brewUsed brew enhancer 2 as recommended on the can. Very strong (5.8%), excellent mouthfeel, great head retention. Still only young (4 weeks in the bottle) and only going to get better!! |

Coopers Australian Pale AleMade with 1kg tin of morgans extra pale malt, 15g cascade hops and supplied yeast. turned out pretty good, mates loved it. If i made it again i would not use the kilo of malt but rather a blend on malt and dextrose to lighten the body a little. A good session beer, one to ween your mates onto homebrew. |
