Chocolate PilsnerChocolate pils? Am I mad? Perhaps, but it turned out to be a good beer, so listen up. I used the base kit with US-05 dried yeast, 1500g amber liquid malt, 150g chocolate grain, 12g Saaz hopping boiled for 20min, and another 12g dry in the fermenter for a week before bottling. It was brewed at 16-18'C. Result was a dark, close-headed beer with a coffee/cocoa aftertaste intermingling with the Saaz hopping. The body wasn't too thick and would best be described as medium to medium-heavy. It improved outta-sight at the 4-week mark. I was very impressed, and rate the kit well as not many stand up to such adulteration and still retain their character. 4 stars and a repeat offender. |

Good Honeycan + brew enhancer 1 + 500g honey ($5/kg from side of road - no idea what it is) to 20L. First time I've tried honey and it is coming along fine. Not much other flavour but the honey comes out really well. Took an age to start and finish regardless of the heat (almost ran out of hb waiting). Could benefit from different yeast I suppose. |

Fails to impressI mixed the kit with a 1kg pack of Coopers Brew Enhancer 2, 20g of Hallertau hops, and I used the yeast that came with the kit - Bohemian yeast. It seemed to ferment OK once it got going, which was after about 48 hours. I racked to secondary at 7 days for a further 7 days, and added gelatine finings in secondary. The result - well, I have beer. It is nice and clear, but, well there is a lot lacking. If you like a beer with little flavour and body, then this beer is for you. If you like something with a little more flavour then you are going to have to be pretty aggressive with the additives. The Hallertau went no where near being sufficient. I would start by assuming that very few hops have been added in the kit, and instead of using sugar, try dry malt extract or a double kit. |

Good LagerHave sampled another brew of this that was fermented with 1kg of LME and 12gm Hallertau finishing hops. Still continues to impress. Good dry hoppy lager. |

Great LagerPut this brew down with just 1kg of CSR brewing sugar. Fermented during heat of summer and bottled. Left 3 months to taste. Initially thought the brew was extremely sweet, but after 4 months brew was nice and crisp with good hops coming through. Have since put down with 1kg of light dry malt and cascade finishing hops. Can't wait to try. |

Great Pale AleI made this kit with 1.5Kg Light DME boiled with 15g of Hallertau hops for 15 mins. Pitched with SafAle S-05 yeast and fermented for 10 days. Racked straight to keg from primary. A nice pale ale from a lager kit. |
