ENGLISH BEST BITTER STYLEBrew craft English Bitter , + 1.5 kg Light Liquid Malt, Safale S-04 yeast, + 12 g Goldings hops , (standard method), 12 g Fuggles hops (standard method), Hops all added at the hot boil stage and left for full fermentation. Finings Added on day 4. OG 10 43 FG – 1013 ABV % – 4,07% + 0,5% = 4,57% I couldn’t wait and had my first trial bottle after week 2, I kept the bottle in the fridge for 1 day before drinking and was very supposed at how good this has turned out it’s a very dark and malty bitter almost tastes like a dark beer rather than a bitter probably all the malt. A great feel in the mouth it is rich and bitter better than I expected. It holds a nice head and smells good. Well worth trying perhaps it’s because I have been in Oz for the last 3 years and have been starved of good ales and bitters but I am happy to give this a 5/5 already and can’t wait to see how it goes as it matures over time. |

Not really worth the extra coin.Brewed with Safale yeast and a Brewers Choice “ultra brew” for 2 weeks then bottled. Tasted at 3 weeks for a sample then at 3 months and there was little difference. Brown in colour and although well carbonated, had a watery mouth-feel. This kit was at the upper end of the price market but, despite the advertising and glowing internet reviews, didn’t really deliver. It massively lacked in body, was a little sweet but never really delivered the rich malty flavour and lacked any hops. |

british bonanzaAdded 100g light crystal, 200g molasses, 1kg LME, boiled 15g of Goldings and 10g flameout. Fermented for 2 weeks with a 6 month old Wyeast British Ale ($5 throw out price) at aroudn 18-20C. After 2 weeks it's nicely carbonated, has plenty of head and tastes very British! It is a tiny bit sweet, I should have used less crystal. A glorified kit indeed, but very drinkable and less work than an all grain. This is a winner. I can imagine it would turn out very average with 1kg dextrose!! |

Good once maturedMade using 500g of LDME and a 1kg Cooper's BE2. Fermented with kit yeast at around 20 degrees. Didn't take gravity readings due to a broken hydrometer. I didn't think a lot of this one at the 2-4 week mark. However, I left most of the bottles until 8 months before drinking and it's now really good. All the sharp flavours have mellowed, and it's now a really nice bitter. Great head which lasts until the bottom of the glass. Nice bitter finish. Will definitely do this again. |

Nice BrewBrewed this with 500g Amber DME, 500g Light DME, 2 East Kent Goldings hop plugs and the kit (Muntons) yeast to 20 litres. Fermented 9 days at 18°C then racked for 2 days secondary before kegging at 10psi. Not at all a bad drop for a dump'n'stir. |

Good BitterThis is a 1.8kg kit. I brewed it with 1kg dry pale malt, 150g maltodextrin and 150g crystal malt, 15g goldings for aroma. OG 1040 FG 1010 Volume 24l Yeast safale 56. Pleasantly surprised with this kit, it is well hopped, tasted fresh and produced a simple but very drinkable bitter with an indestructible head. However, my recipe did produce a strong caramel taste and aroma from the crystal (it did lessen with maturation). I will definitely brew this kit again, but will use a lighter crystal grain next time to lessen the caramel. The maltodextrin probably wasn’t needed. |
