An attempt to replicate Millers lite?Terrible just terrible, I am tempted to pour it out but I guess who knows maybe a miracle will happen? , will repost if it improves but Im not holding my breath. Its a clever marketing idea though, a brew kit for people who don't like beer. Its been 3 weeks, carbonation was a real problem as mentioned by others once the yeast had run out it did not seem to want to re-activate, do not use the supplied yeast. Watery, tasteless and characterless I brewed it with 15% light dried malt and invert sugar at 20o, maybe a kilo of pure light malt instead of invert sugar and more hops might have saved it but really? Its average two and a half stars stars is being very charitable in my opinion, I give this dog one star at this time. Pete |

OK!Brewed with a pre-mixed lager pack from the local HB store. Used the kit yeast and fermented it around 21C. Tired my best to keep it lower but this was a good as I could get. The brew is ok, definately better kits out there but I expect if you use a better yeast, add some malt and hops you'd be on a winner. |

Black Rock LagerHi , Cant believe some of the comments about this lager . Brewed a kit recently , used nothing but basic ingredients ( white household sugar ) and then kegged it up . 8 weeks later I had a very light ( akin to Stella Artois ), clear and crisp lager . As I didnt want a " heavy " brew it was perfect ( have plenty of bitter , brown ale and stout for that ) . Cant see the problem with it . Does what it says on the can . |

Down the drainThis was my 1st brew as it came with the kit. Tried a few bottles after 3 weeks and tried to persuade myself it was nice. Now 2 months old and tastes revolting. Will now stick with Coopers and Muntons kits as no issues using these and the end result is marvelous! |

Black Rock LagerBlack rock lager(green can, I believe that in Australia there are 2 varities sold) and 1kg dextrose has done me fine for the last 8 years brewing in hot summer conditions. And I tried almost all availabe products (worts?) sold here. |

aka BirrellsThis stuff tastes like Birrells...you know, the canned beer-flavoured soft drink made under license by Coopers and sold in Woollies. No, wait a minute, I think Birrells has more flavour, and it doesn't give you a head ache. This is the sort of stuff that gives home brew a bad name. I'm off Black Rock for good now. They represent a triumph of marketing over substance. Won't be fooled again!!!! |

Gives lager a Bad NameThis is s***e. Gives lager a bad name. Anton Dreher will be rolling in his grave. Steer clear unless you are using as the most basic of bases for a recipe and there is nothing better available to you. They really should be ashamed to put this stuff out. Birrell's has more beer flavour!! |

needs improvementOne of the first kits I ever did after a few batches of Cooper's. Used 5oo gms dextrose but reduced the volume by a few litres, trying to get more body and avoid cidery flavours.Fermented in winter at the bottom end of the recommended temp. range for the supplied yeast. Took longer than expected to ferment out (10 days as opposed to the 3-4 with Cooper's yeast in summertime). Turned out very clean tasting in comparison with, say, Cooper's Lager. Gold colour, small bubbles, but fast dissipating head. I suspect it has a fairly low HBU rating, so it might be a candidate for a "toucan" brew with a proper lager yeast (or even US-56 in summer). I think you would get a nice enough result if you like standard lagers/light ales for quaffing in the warmer months. |
